Master Of The Ocean

Last weekend I competed in the “Master of the Ocean” kiteboarding expression session.

The Master of the Ocean was a week long event (Feb.23 – Feb.28) giving spectators everything they could ask for by combining Surfing, Sup’ing, Windsurfing, and Kitesurfing into one event.

With plenty of wind and waves every day the event was tons of fun for everyone who came to watch and compete. I didn’t compete until the weekend however it was worth the wait. The expression session was a best trick competition with 15 minute heats. We competed at Bozo beach which is the main beach in Cabarete.

Stacked with kickers to the right and flat spots in between it makes a good combination spot for the riders, plus the unpredictability of the water and gusting winds made for some rather big crashes.

My goal was to go big and with plenty of wind for a 9 meter Cabrinha Chaos. The wind didn’t quite pick up and I ended using an 11m. Broken boots prevented me from landing double S 3’s the way I wanted too. It wasn’t until the countdown that I landed a very clean double Hindenburg with 2 seconds left.

After coming into the beach three times to put more zip ties on my broken boots I couldn’t have been more stoked to have landed a few clean and powered moves.

It was quite a fun competition – I was glad to be a part!
